The gaming software is pretty standard – I didn’t find any huge inconvenient with it, but it also didn’t bring anything new to the game – all of its features are so wide spread throughout the online poker community that it just becomes mundane and stale. However, while it won’t offer anything new and exciting, the standard feature that it does embed are pretty fun, and if you are into the game and nothing else, you won’t be deeply disappointed.
One Way Poker is part of the iPoker network of websites, which means that they share their player databases. So, at any given moment, you are able to play against some thirty thousand different players gathered from dozens of other poker websites.
The website offers quite a variety of different poker styles, among which we can find the wide spread Texas Hold ‘em, and others such as Omaha Hi, Omaha Hi-Lo or Seven Card Stud. One Way Poker isn’t host to the most advanced players out there, so it is perfect for beginners, as they have a chance to play among equally skilled players.
As many other websites do, One Way Poker offers its most loyal players a chance to be rewarded for their hours of play. So what they have come up with is a system of VIP levels based on the cumulation of One Way Points. As always, you gather the poker points (in this instance, One Way Points) simply by playing the game as you normally would for real money. You gain points for each hand you play in online poker cash games and for each tournament fee you pay to enter in tournaments. As you start earning more and more points on a monthly basis (the average points earned every month is calculated), you are eligible to enter a higher VIP level, which will bring you more benefits. The five VIP levels are the following:
- Bronze. This is the first level, which you are automatically assigned to when you first register for an account at One Way Poker. You don’t have a minimum requirement to be a Bronze level member, and your only benefit is that you can exchange every 1,000 points to $1. You stay at a Bronze level until you reach 999 points.
- Silver. You are a Silver level member when you reach 1,000 points and right up to 3,999 points. From this level on, the benefits start to add up, so you are now eligible to buy three different “packages”: $5 for 2,500 in game points, $15 for 5,000 points or $75 for 15,000 points.
- Gold. This is the level for more experienced, seasoned players. You reach Gold level when you have at least 4,000 points in your account and stay there until you have 14,999. Here you have three different “packages” that you can buy with your One Way Points: $45 for 7,500 points, $175 for 20,000 points or $500 for 50,000 points.
- Platinum. This is almost the highest level possible, and it stretches from 15,000 monthly earned points right up to 39,999 points. As you’ve learned, you get new and larger “packages”, so now you can have $250 for 250,000 points, $800 for 60,000 points or $2,000 for 125,000 points.
- And, finally, Diamond. This level is the top level you can reach, and only elite One way Poker players are here. You need a monthly average of over 40,000 points to be here, and if you reach them you get the chance to exchange points for more cash. The new exchange rates are: $650 for 40,000 points, $2,250 for 125,000 points or $5,000 for 240,000 points.
Basically, you gain 15 One Way points for every $1 you spend on a tournament entry fee, and from 1 to 10 points for every raked hand in cash games, depending on the size of that hand. The system is pretty profitable, but compared to others from other online poker websites, it is pretty poor, as it offers little benefits for its most loyal customers (Some other poker rooms out there treat their VIP players with the outmost respect – from special privileges like private support to cruises around the world. It’s safe to say that they are far better than a better exchange rate for points, don’t you think?).
The thing that I liked about One Way Poker is that they seem comitted to satisfying their customers through a well thought support system, so they show a lot of respect for their players this way. Apart from the usual support through e-mail or telephone, One Way Poker has a non stop live chat system, which is guaranteed to be faster than the traditional methods (which take a bit longer in the phone support’s case, or a lot longer in the case of the e-mail response). I tried out the system and logged in with an employee in a couple of seconds. Unlike other chat support employees, he seemed pretty skilled and solved my problem without asking me a bunch of additional, useless questions. So I’d give One Way Poker their due credit, as they have a near flawless system right here. I just hope all employees are the same.
What One Way Poker lacks in certain areas, it tries to make up by offering a lot of promotions and bonuses. Apart from the $500 free First Deposit poker bonus that you receive when you sign up and use the promotional code: igsbonus, they have a $1,000 monthly Freeroll which is only available for new players (who have registered in the past 3 months). They are also active in the tournament market, with their partnership with Blue Square making them sponsors for the GUKPT, and also the frequent satellite tournaments for all major events in Europe and worldwide.
