Howard Lederer is one of the most well-known professional poker players in the world, and is one of the heavyweight live players, as opposed to online poker players, who have risen in the past several years. He was born in 1964, in New Hampshire, and for the better part of his youth he showed absolutely no interest in professional poker. In fact, after high-school he moved to New York to pursue a career in playing chess, a game in which he showed great talent, from a young age.
